Asparagus Family – Asparagaceae
Harvest Bordiaea is also called Harvest Lily.
Plant Description: Harvest Brodiaea has a single, 2 to 10 inches tall, erect stem. The 1 to 3 grass-like leaves wither before the flowers bloom. At the top of the stem is a loose umbel of 3 to 5 flowers (sometimes as many as 10) on pedicels of different lengths.
Flower Description: The 1.5 inch flower is vase-shaped, with 3 sepals and 3 petals, violet-purple, widely-flaring, with a dark purple line. The 3 white, petal-like staminoides stand vertically, surrounding 3 fertile stamen and a 3-part yellowish stigma.
Ecology: Harvest Brodiaea grows in gravely sites, grassy meadows and slopes at low elevations, sometimes forming large masses.
Note: Harvest Brodiaea has been moved from the Lily Family to the Asparagus Family. See “APG Changes” page
